Graininess in shea butter is fairly common. This is not a reflection of the quality of the butter, but merely a reaction to temperature fluctuations. Crystallization occurs when shea butter melts during warm shipping conditions, and then cools back down too slowly. As it re-cools, shea butter can crystallize or become grainy. Your Balm is perfectly fine to use and everything will melt down when applied to skin.
