"There is a magical land, where time is suspended, caravans go up and down. There is an immense desert, an intense heat. The sun shines from the South. The wind blows from the North." This fragrance smells of salt, of pungent air and then suddenly takes on the changing color of the sand dunes: pink, gold and orange.

Why we’re addicted: It is inspired by the salted and sweet air of Ethiopia's windswept ancient desert dunes as noted blissfully by those on desert caravans of lore.

Salt Water, Eucalyptus, Rosewood, Galbanum, Peach Blossom, Rose, Dry Woods

And here the tale of the Thousand and One Nights comes true. Jasmine and Aladdin wrapped in a wind of essences. The charm of a starry night that blows from the dunes of the Middle East on the grains of sand of North Africa. Rough and dry like its woody notes, soft and enveloping like the essential oil of peach blossom. For millennia, camels laden with salt slabs have traveled the road that starts from the cold Danakil desert and then crosses the hot dunes of the Ethiopian desert.

Brand Info

Florentine perfumer and founder of i Profumi di Firenze, Dr. Giovanni di Massimo discovered Catherine de Medici's secret perfume recipes and other Medici fragrance formulas in 1966 in the aftermath of a devastating flood. That year torrential rains caused the Arno River to overflow into the city’s historical center engulfing it in muddy water.

While sorting through the watery mess, Dr. Massimo found buried deep in his apothecary’s ancient basement a 16th-century manuscript containing these secret formulas. Remarkably not only had the document survived this deluge, it remained intact despite all the centuries undetected.

From the formulas commissioned by Catherine de Medici, Dr. Massimo chose the most beautiful, recreated it with all-natural essences and named the perfume “Caterina de Medici” in her honor.
