Like a tribute to Paris. For Diptyque, only a chypre - the accord with a thousand facets - could portray this city with a thousand faces.

Why we're addicted: In Eau Capitale eau de parfum, bergamot - given extra bite by pink peppercorn - is followed by roses, and moss gives way to patchouli. Paris in a bottle.

Notes:
Rose, Bergamot, Patchouli, Pink Peppercorn.

How is Paris to be celebrated?

For Diptyque, only chypre, a legendary accord with a thousand facets, could pay worthy tribute to the city of a thousand faces. A bouquet of roses verging on excess follows fresh bergamot spiced with pink peppercorns. Freedom claimed: this time not moss, but patchouli. An Eiffel Tower, roses, flowing calligraphy, a peacock with its tail fanned, volutes, lines intertwined... To illustrate Eau Capitale, Diptyque and Pierre Marie drew their inspiration from Parisian architecture and iconic Art Nouveau buildings.

Chypre is an emblematic accord in perfumery. The source of the name and head of this distinguished family is Chypre de Coty, created in 1917.

Free-spirited adventurers, Diptyque’s trio of founders have traveled all around the world, returning home with memories, fragrances, aspirations and inspiration…All the things that have now become part of the brand’s universe.

The Diptyque story began in Paris at 34 boulevard Saint-Germain with, at its heart, three friends driven by the same creative passion. Christiane Gautrot was an interior designer, Desmond Knox-Leet, a painter, and Yves Coueslant, a theater director and set designer. The first two collaborated designing fabrics and wallpaper for Liberty and Sanderson.

The collection of personal fragrances, skincare and home fragrances are imprinted with a distinctive and particular olfactory signature. The creations express themselves in unusual ways to delight loyal and initiated fans and enlightened novices.

Always appropriate. Always appreciated. Classic. Timeless. Diptyque.

The Dark Side of Rose

"If you crave a dark "gothy" rose and patchouli scent then this will satisfy you! Yes, it gets compared to "The One That Is Contractually Obligated to Be Compared To" whenever a rose/patch perfume is mentioned. I'm referring of course to Portrait of a Lady by Frederic Malle, and yes, there is a sliver of similarity because rose and patchouli make a distinctive accord. No rose/patch perfume can escape the shadow of POAL because it's now become the standard to which all rose/patch perfumes are measured. Eau Capitale to me smells smooth and polished as it doesn't have any spice or powder, no raspy notes that might stick out or interrupt the sleekness. It feels like a cool, dark, glossy kind of a rose and patchouli. When I wear it I want to wear all black, slip on a pair of winklepickers and go to a nightclub in search of human blood."
