Most Vitamin C serums on the market today are formulated with water. However, since Vitamin C has a very strong ability to bind to free radicals of oxygen like the ones found in water (Water = H2O with 2 Hydrogen and 1 Oxygen molecule), as soon as it’s dissolved in water, it starts to oxidize and change the color of the formula (pure Vitamin C is clear and the color changes to light orange and subsequently to dark orange).

When this color change happens, two things occur: 1) the activity of Vitamin C becomes disabled and 2) far worse, the “antioxidant” formulation actually turns into a “pro-oxidant” formulation. Essentially, if a Vitamin C formula changes color, the Vitamin C is oxidized and becomes damaging to the skin. This waterless serum, therefore, is extremely stable and its potency is ensured because it doesn’t oxidize.
