Leather and Tobacco

In a hotel of Havana, sizzling under the stubborn sun of the Revolution, fierce overtones of leather and tobacco meddle with resolution the waxy silence of wood. Breaking out of the cool dimness, sly grimaces emerge, framed by the smoke of cigars and the barrels of guns.

At Cire Trudon, matches are an essential part of the ritual. In one crack, it ignites the wick, surprises the shadows and gives life to light. Delicately perfumed, it signs the prologue of the stories behind the candles. Elegant, long and delicate, asleep in their illustrated boxes, they patiently wait for their destiny. If the box is left slightly open, they will slightly scent, in their sleep, a drawer, a cupboard or a study.
Founded in 1643, on the threshold of the reign of Louis XIV, Cire Trudon is the oldest Candlemaker in the world still active today.

Throughout the 17th century, the manufacturer became the Royal Wax Manufacturer and official supplier in the French court, then to Napoléon Bonaparte. Cire Trudon received a Gold Medal during the 1889 Universal Exhibit as a reward for the outstanding quality of its candles and wax.

Trudon enlists well-known “noses” to create perfumes for the stories it wishes to tell. Each candle is still dripped and made by hand in its factory in Normandy, perpetuating a luxury manufacturing which helps perpetuates the skills of its founder, Claude Trudon.
